We’re always hearing about the amazing places our couples are planning to visit for their honeymoon. And sure, luxurious over-water bungalows somewhere in the tropics are always a popular choice. But if you’re looking for something a little bit different, these are a few of the most unique resorts and holidays we’ve heard about from our brides and grooms.
A tree house
We got pretty excited about this treetop hangout. What could be more romantic than your own private tree house? In Costa Rica’s beautiful cloud forest, you’ll find the Hidden Canopy Treehouses. This boutique hotel is probably best for the young-at-heart with both a taste for adventure and a need for relaxation. With plenty to explore outside your elevated suite, there seems to be both on offer from this pretty little retreat. Check out the suspended walkways through the canopy!
A cliff-clinging suite
An infinity pool is one of those things that seem almost compulsory for the perfect honeymoon. Designed to mimic terraced rice paddies, Ubud Hanging Gardens and its pools hang off a forested cliff in Indonesia. Not one for those afraid of heights, the lovely honeymoon suites teeter over the edge of the valley. Take a dip and then zip back to your room in the cute little funicular. Plus, the French-Asian cuisine is reportedly amazingly tasty.
An underwater retreat
There’s a trend for luxury hotels to offer something completely out of the ordinary. If you’re looking for an injection of glamour, you could think about heading to one of the world’s newer resorts such as Dubai. Atlantis The Palm for example, has a 3-floor Underwater Suite has floor to ceiling windows looking out onto the marine life of Ambassador Lagoon from the bedroom and bathroom! Although it might take a bit of getting used to, we love the sound of a private, round-the-clock butler bringing you everything you need so you can just cosy up and check out the view.
A gypsy caravan
Looking for something more on the quaint side and close to home? There are loads of unusual glamping locations around the British Isles and in Europe. We know a couple who checked into Karlotta – a gypsy caravan in the Scottish Highlands for a few days. This cute roulotte is small but beautifully decorated with Scottish and Moroccan details – perfect for a romantic mini-moon.
A wild hangout
Want to be amongst nature but don’t fancy a safari? There are lots of hotels and resorts in Africa that offer luxury as well as wildlife-spotting opportunities. We like the sound of Giraffe Manor near Nairobi – an old manor house that’s now a boutique hotel surrounded by gardens full of Rothschild giraffes! Apparently, friendly members of the herd will poke their head through open bedroom windows and try to join you for breakfast…
Whatever you decide to do for your honeymoon, whether it’s a camping holiday in Wales or a luxury riad stay in Morocco, we wish you a wonderful time. And let us know if you think there are any unique resorts or hotels we should have mentioned in this list!
